The basic ethos of the Mk2 Golf GTI Championship is of close racing with good driving standards, at low cost, in a friendly and helpful environment.
The regulations have been intentionally designed to be both straightforward and limit the amount of permitted modifications, therefore keeping the cost of preparing a car at a low level. An overview of the regulations, registration and associated costs is provided below :
MSA Safety features- 6 point bolt-in rollcage, extinguisher, racing seat, safety harness - these are all mandatory.
Engine- Engines are close to standard with very limited modifications allowed. We allow the fitment of a 'control' camshaft(s) from Newman Cams and modification of the lower airbox and panel filter and new for 2012 a control 4 brach manifold on the 8 valve cars. Inlet manifold must be standard; and remainder of exhaust 'free'. Sump may be baffled but dry sump is not permitted.
Suspension- Suspension springs may be lowered and stiffened, dampers may be uprated, bushes can be replaced but standard anti-roll bars must be retained.
Brakes- Brakes standard or standard pattern with 'free' pads. The removal of back-plates is allowed and braided brake hoses are mandatory. No ABS is allowed, even if standard fitment.
Transmission- Standard gearbox and final drive to be retained; no limited slip or similar differential allowed. Wheels - Wheels 15" diameter, maximum 7" width; steel or aluminum alloy only (no magnesium).
Tyres- The control tyres are Toyo R888 in 'GG' compound of size 195/50/15.
